Here We Go!
I don’t know about you, but it’s hard for me to believe that we’ve already begun another new year! 2009… And I’ve hit past 30 too. hmm… A number like that is a funny thing: On the one hand, it kinda gives you a fresh-start feeling of renewal; on the other hand, it inspires you to do a little looking back.
Anyway, 2008 has been a great year for me. Amidst all the gloomy news, I really have to be content with everything that I have and be thankful for the little pleasures in life. Here’s a short list.
- Started my blog and managed to keep it up alright
- Moved house ( twice in a year in fact! )
- Became more environmentally conscious and changed some habits
- Spearheaded a big project and learnt many new things
- Managed to get Rain to do a few recordings for me (lucky!)
- Traveled to New York and kept my promise to attend my brother’s and sister-in-law’s graduation
- And best of all, 2008 was a great family year thanks to two weddings in our family bringing everyone together from opposite ends of the globe. (not easy!)
And that last point alone is enough to make my 2008 an absolutely fantastic year.
Nothing is more precious to me than the love of my family, and nothing is more painful than being separated from them. Now that we’ve all grown up, moved on and started our own families now… it’s become even more difficult to coordinate a family get-together time, especially when everyone’s living in different parts of the world.
You know, in that sense, I really miss my childhood days when the people I loved most, that is, my family, lived under one roof and were part of my life everyday. O, the good ‘ol days! And I have to admit, there is a part of me today that yearns for those days when my brother and sister and I hung out together always.
While that’s difficult now due to geographical reasons, I can still look back at the lovely time and memories I’ve shared together as a family and be thankful for what I have.
And 2008… it was priceless! We’ve seen our family grow double the size and we all watched my niece (the first one in her generation, and the only so far :p ) take her first step, sing her first line and wave her first bye.
We’ve created more memories in 2008 that will have us smiling and laughing for years to come and so I couldn’t ask for more.
But psss…. I’m still secretly wishing that 2009 will be just as happy and exciting, maybe even better!
Greedy, aren’t I? haha…

i hope you blog regularly in this new year! i really enjoy reading your blog! i hardly get the chance to catch PTM (unfortunately) because by then i’m already in my office starting work. wish you a happy new year and all the best!
Do Koreans have like a Reunion Dinner tradition for their New Year? Only during this meal we manage to sit down and eat together (3 of us + Mom). And none of us live overseas. That’s how bad. Family gatherings like these are getting increasingly precious for the past few years because of my Mom’s health condition. Yeah, childhood times are sweet and the only time we get to relive that is by having children of our own. Children are like time machines – they are the fast forward button of your life because time will fly by while you slog to bring them up; and they are also the rewind button, and you get to reacquaint with the demons of your fears, doubts and anger once again – this time with a laugh. Only through kids will we feel a sense of our place in time and be able to put a value to every experience in our past. Life without this time machine would just be a very real-time linear experience akin to watching live CCTV footage.
I can’t believe another year has gone by.
I don’t even know how I spent my 2008. (Better sit down and take some time out to think about my goals for this year)
What’s your new year resolution, Suzanne?
Anyways, I’m really looking forward to the Chinese New Year to catch up with my family (which reminds me I need to get hong boas ready).
Hope 2009 will be a better year for everyone of us!

Hi Suzanne!

2009 will be a great year for all of us.

Hi I agree that your niece is sooooooo cute….I simply love children..Can I ask you a few question? If I were to house a korean lady for 2 months.she request to cook, but my condition was a no-no, is it a korean thing that die die must cook?
Did I mention that you are full of love and understanding but that doesn’t mean people should take advantage of your friendly nature. There’s so much I want to tell you yet you are unable to reply all the time. I think we share many values together and I hope the same can be said of our interests. During the past several years I’ve discovered on tv, that you portray an amazingly secure and stable personality. How do you cope in this information age and knowledge based society? except for your built in capacity I trust! Hope that enduring will reap endearing. Wishing you well always.
