Proudly Pinoy
Isn’t it ironic how we Filipinos would often shake our heads and say ‘only in the Philippines’ to express our frustration over the negative turn of events in our country?
Foreigners, on the other hand, would say ‘only in the Philippines’ in awe and amazement over the beauty of our country and the Filipinos.
I guess this is because the Philippines is such a beautiful paradox that we ourselves often misunderstand it.
During the past two years that I have been with Channel NewsAsia, I have rediscovered many interesting facets of the Philippines that I have taken for granted.
I hope that this blog will not only enable me to share the Philippines’ unique charm, it will also serve as a platform for all Filipinos and those who adore the Philippines, to share everything and anything that is truly and distinctively Filipino, and be proudly Pinoy.
Hi Christine!,
It’s nice that you’re using your blog to help uplift the Philippines,.. and let’s all be proud to be pinoys!
Your post somehow made me want to re-attest my being Filipino,.. could it be that Filipinos are less aware - or, perhaps, less proud with what we have,.. Persist on using your page as a platform for Filipinos in the Philippines and wherever in the world they may be,…
Hi Christine;
I must agree wz u tt The Philippines has so much to offer & is blessed wz wonderfully beautiful cultures, ppl & so many lovely places of interest. Infact, most of Asean & to a greater extent, Asia is!, and I’m glad to be part of it!.
Hwer, I do notice a difference in attitudes or shud I be precise, sense of bein’ rooted or a yearning to return to our homeland, missin’ especially among the many overseas Filipinos.
On many occasions, many Filipinos hv spoken of how they need to be elsewhere inorder to survive not just for their themselves but their loved ones too wh means uprooting their families fm their homeland. Reasons given varies fm better salary, better environment for their children to live & be educated, better job opportunities, etc. Now, if a concensus is made among the Asean countries, u’d probably get a very different answer!. Pls don’t get me wrong. I’m not bein’ rude or wharsoever. It’s just tt I find it strange why Filipinos wud want to trade off their ambitions for something so dear & part of them?. Many view a one way ticket out of their homeland as a means of survival & better livelihood. Yes, I’m sure tt Filipinos wl stand up & profess their loyalthy & love for their homeland but when asked if they wud return, many, regrettably, wl choose to remain where they are.
Aren’t the government doin something abt this?. I mean, there’s an abundance of talents out there & aren’t the government makin’ any effort to bring them back?. Wudn’t it be good for the country both economically & socially?.

Hi, C.O.! I hope you continue to enjoy your job and at the same time, find ways to make a difference in society. I’m proud of you, and I’m sure, so is our Pakil group. Take care!
Hello Christine,
Thanks a lot for your encouraging and very much patriotic view of us Filipinos whether local or overseas. I’m Fred here, a migrant in Calgary, Canada and also a permanent resident of Singapore. I stand with you in your sincere reflection and positive outlook about our homeland and our people. Being an experienced OFW for the last 20 years over, I did realized how beautiful and great our nation is with all its talented people. I have been away from our country, not that I’m running out of the socio-economic-political demise and chaos in my birth place but to be able to help back our country to rise up again and resurrect from the graveyard by means of financial support to my relatives and also other kababayans who needs to achieve a better quality life by taking advantage of the overseas opportunities that may help each of the millions of families back home. Can you imagine that here in Alberta, Canada, the demand for filipino skilled labour rose to about 200,000 now and they prefer to hire our people as we can fluently commmunicate well in English and we are flexible, hard working people (That’s what the Canadians told me). I’ve been here just for a year now (working in the Oil and Gas sector as a senior Engineer) since I left Singapore. I have also been a part of those OFWs back in Saudi Arabia as I worked there for about 5 years prior to my 15 years stint in Singapore and finally landing here in this land flowing with milk and honey. My primary objective now is to become a blessing to all my kababayans who need a job from back home and build a better future and come back to serve our country. If you need any info on this matter, you may email me at Fred.Magcawas@WorleyParsons.com and I can help anyone who may dream of re-building our nation for a better future. All the best to everyone here and God Bless Us All…Mabuhay tayong mga Pinoy!!!
I am proud to be Pinoy.
Hi Christine! I agree, there are a lot of things which you can experience “only in the Philippines”. I hope you keep us updated with recent happenings in our country, not only from the Pinoy perspective, but from an Asian perspective as well. Through this, we would be (hopefully) able to consider and tackle on some problems of our country. More Power!
Mabuhay ka Cristine!
